Ecohome Insulation’s Exclusive Timber Frame Multifoil Insulation Kit. Achieve a variety of U-values required for building control in 89mm studs or deeper, without any Kingspan or Celotex!
This Multifoil-only insulation system is proven to insulate a timber frame wall in less cost, space and installation time than any other method on the market.
Our system includes YBS SuperQuilt for the internal, and YBS BreatherFoil FR for the external. These materials also have a built-in breather membrane and vapour control layer, reducing extra materials required.
On the supplied data sheet you will find a variety of typical U-values you can achieve. If you are looking to achieve a lower U-value such as 0.18, we would recommend using a double layer of SuperQuilt with a single layer of BreatherFoil FR.

Preparing The External Wall For Insulation
Prepare for the BreatherFoil installation by removing any Exisiting Cladding and exposing the OSB/Sarking board.

Attaching The Initial Layer Of BreatherFoil
Unroll the BreatherFoil Horizontally across the wall and staple it directly to the external timber boarding, at a minimum of 300mm intervals.

Where A Vertical Joint Occurs
Where a vertical joint occurs, ensure a minimum overlap of 100mm & seal using ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.

Where A Horizontal Joint Occurs
When rolling out the next roll above the first, horizontal joints need to be created, ensure a minimum overlap of 75mm, leaving the overlaps untaped.

Attaching The Second Layer Of BreatherFoil
Staple the BreatherFoil directly to the external timber boarding as before, at a minimum of 300mm intervals.

Vertical Taping The Perimeter
Once the wall is fully covered, begin to seal the vertical perimeter using ThermaSeal Foil Tape, leaving the top and bottom untaped.

Install Timber Battens
Apply a layer of timber battens (minimum of 25mm), perpendicular to the rafters at minimum intervals of 400mm.

Install The External Finish
Finally apply the external finish/cladding in accordance with the manufacturers certification, fixing instructions & good building practice.
Do you require a breather membrane with this detail?
BreatherFoil FR works as venting membrane. There is no requirement for an additional felt with this material.
Do I need to tape and seal?
Yes we recommend to tape both SuperQuilt and BreatherFoil FR
Can I use additional insulation for improved thermal benefits?
For improved U-values you could consider adding PIR Insulation or Mineral Wool in the timber studs. SuperQuilt is then to be installed on the internal, BreatherFoil on the external of the OSB.
How do I cut these foil products?
We recommend cutting SuperQuilt and BreatherFoil FR with Multifoil Scissors. These can be found in our Multifoil Fitting Kit
What U-value does SuperQuilt and BreatherFoil FR achieve?
Using a single layer of both SuperQuilt and BreatherFoil generally achieves a U-value of 0.26
What U-value does 2 layers of SuperQuilt and BreatherFoil acehive?
A double layer of SuperQuilt and a single layer of BreatherFoil achieves a U-value of either 0.17 or 0.18.
Where do I obtain a U-value calculation?

Do I need any protective clothing?
When insulating with multifoil insulation products, there is no requirement for any masks or PPE. Our materials are fully itch free and contain no harmful chemicals.
