The Ultimate Floor Insulation

YBS SuperQuilt Floor Insulation is fully certified for Building Control by BDA, BBA, and also LABC. It’s often used to insulate above concrete floors and within timber floors. It’s perfect for any project whether it’s a new build, retrofit, or DIY project. You can also use SuperQuilt to boost your EPC rating due to it being fully certified.

SuperQuilt is the highest performing EN Certified Multifoil Insulation on the market. When purchased directly from Ecohome Insulation and it’s fully taped and sealed with ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape we give a Lifetime Guarantee.

What is YBS SuperQuilt Insulation?

Superquilt is made from 19 layers of Wadding Aluminium Foil, and High-Density Foam. It’s the only Multifoil Insulation on the market with highly reflective True Aluminium outer layers. This results in SuperQuilt reflecting away 98% of radiant energy. It’s fully manufactured in the UK by YBS Insulation. SuperQuilt is 40mm thick however it compresses down to just 10mm during installation.

Floor Insulation Solutions

SuperQuilt has been design to work with both suspended timber floors and concrete floors. For suspended timber floors it’s designed to be recessed into the floor joists by 50mm and stapled into place or you can also use Saddle Clips. For concrete floors, Superquilt is installed directly on top of the concrete, and timber joists are installed on top of the SuperQuilt.  Check out our Data Sheet for further installation instructions also how YBS SuperQuilt can benefit your project.

How to Insulate Timber Floors with YBS SuperQuilt

SuperQuilt Insulation for Floors

expand_circle_down How-To Guides

How To Insulate a Floor using EcoQuilt Expert or YBS SuperQuilt

  1. Installing over existing joists

Start by removing the existing floorboards to expose all joists. We then recommend running the multifoil perpendicular to joists and cutting at each end, allowing enough material to recess the quilt into the joists.

  2. Recessing Multifoil

To save on headheight, you can now recess the multifoil into the joists. We recommend using a 50mm batten as a guide and stapling along the top and sides of each batten. If preferred you can use our Multifoil Saddle Clips.

  3. Taping and Sealing with ThermaSeal Foil Tape

Next tape and seal around the perimeter with ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape. This will prevent drafts from rising through the flooring. We recommend overlapping each layer of Multifoil by 50mm and leaving the overlaps untaped, to allow the timbers to breathe.

  4. Laying Floorboards

You can then proceed to install the floorboards back over the joists and insulation. This will then have created an air cavity on either side of the insulation.

How to Insulate Above a Concrete Floor Using SuperQuilt

  1. Installing first run of SuperQuilt

SuperQuilt can be rolled out vertically or horizontally along the concrete floor. Leave enough material at the edges to protrude SuperQuilt Insulation above the floor deck. Ensure the concrete floor is fully clean, flat, and debris free.

  2. Joints and Taping

Ensure SuperQuilt is butt jointed with other layers on both the verticals and horizontals. (No overlaps). Fully tape and seal all butt joists of SuperQuilt with Thermaseal 75mm ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.

  3. Installing Battens

Timber battens or joists are then laid over the top of SuperQuilt - at 400mm centres (evenly spaced). The minimum batten depth is 50mm, increasing the batten depth enhances the performance. SuperQuilt will compress to around 7mm when timber is installed above.

  4. Finish with Flooring

Proceed with installing your timber boarding floor. The deck is then fixed at 200mm centres, with 37mm screws into the joists or battens below

expand_circle_down Q&As

What does SuperQuilt consist of?

SuperQuilt consists of 19 itch-free layers including True Aluminium Foils as the Outer and Inner layer. The other 17 layers consists of recycled waddings, PE Foams, and other reflective foils.

Is SuperQuilt harmful?

SuperQuilt contains no harmful fibres and does not release any toxic gasses when cut or installed. When installing SuperQuilt, there is no requirement for any masks, PPE or gloves.

What thickness is SuperQuilt?

SuperQuilt is available in just one thickness, which is 40mm at a relaxed thickness and will compress down to 7mm.

Does SuperQuilt require airgaps?

To gain the best thermal performance, we recommend a minimum cavity/batten of 25mm both sides of the insulation. This is to allow the product to expand and reflect. If a cavity is removed, the performance would reduce by approx 20%.

Is SuperQuilt fireproof?

SuperQuilt has a Class E Euro Fire Classification Certificate. SuperQuilt is not fully fire-proof, however the true aluminium outer layers are flame proof, meaning if a naked flame touches the product, it will smoulder as opposed to spreading.

What’s the difference between SuperQuilt and SuperFoil?

SuperQuilt is a premium product with true aluminium foils as the outer layers, compared to SuperFoil’s range which has metalized foils which provides a lower Fire Classification Grade (Fail) SuperQuilt is also fully certified, and UK manufactured compared to SuperFoil.

Does SuperQuilt achieve building regulations?

In some applications SuperQuilt will achieve building regulations stand-alone. In Roofs and Walls, you may need to use additional insulation alongside SuperQuilt to achieve your desired U-value.

Can SuperQuilt be used on External side of Walls?

SuperQuilt is suitable for insulating on both the internal and external of solid walls. Please ensure there is a min batten of 25mm both sides of the insulation.
