How to Insulate a Concrete Floor

How to insulate a concrete floor using EcoTec FloorFoam Insulation. FloorFoam is a 4mm dense true aluminium foil and foam membrane, designed to be used under carpets and laminate.

EcoTec FloorFoam has a highly reflective foil on either side of the foam membrane. These foils help retain heat and stop the cold rising into your home.

FloorFoam is extremely easy to install. It will help retain heat, add a thermal barrier, and significantly reduce draughts and moisture from rising.

Rolling Out FloorFoam

Start by rolling out FloorFoam Insulation either vertically or horizontally on the concrete floor.

EcoTec FloorFoam can easily be cut using multifoil scissors or a cutting knife, both available in our Multifoil Fitting Kit.

Fixing Down FloorFoam Insulation

FloorFoam is fixed onto concrete floors using ThermaSeal double-sided tape or non-solvent glue. Ensure FloorFoam is fully taped and sealed on butt joints on the floor, and taped around the perimeter — ThermaSeal Foil Tape is provided free of charge in the Insulation Kit.

Taping and sealing ensures no draught or moisture can rise up through the floor.

Install Preferred Final Flooring

Once your concrete floor has been covered with FloorFoam, you can install your desired flooring. Wood and laminate flooring can be installed directly on top of FloorFoam.

We recommend using a carpet and laminate underlay before carpet or laminate is installed. If vinyl or lino is being used, we advise using plywood over the top of the FloorFoam.
