Insulating Your Home to Keep Cool

It sounds bizarre doesn’t it? But read further before you decide…

With the signs of summer slowly approaching, the heat is coming (hopefully) – and so too are higher energy bills. As you adjust your thermostat to maintain a comfortable temperature in home, your monthly energy bills will also start to increase.

However there is a more affordable approach to keeping your home cool and energy bills lower this summer and it’s more money-wise than you may think.

Believe it or not, as well as keeping a house warm during the winter months, insulation will also keep it cooler in summer.

This is because insulation traps air inside, warm in winter and cool in summer. This slows down the speed the outside temperature affects your house. The bigger the temperature difference between the outside and the inside of your house, the more insulation you need.

If you live in a property built before 1980 the chances are that your house is not properly insulated with only a recorded 20% of pre-1980 houses being correctly insulated. New homes are also insulated to the minimum of standards to ensure costs are kept down; therefore it may be worth checking out.

If you are already avoiding internal heat gains by doing the usual opening of windows, using shading and reducing the use of electrical appliances which may give off unnecessary heat, then a well insulated building will insure these cooling techniques will bring in cool air and then retain it in your home.

Correctly installed insulation in the lofts of homes will prevent natural air flowing into areas such as your loft, ensuring that your air-conditioning system (if you have one) or cooling system won’t have to work harder to keep temperatures comfortable.

By fitting insulation like our Multi-Foil Eco-Quilt Reflective Insulation, which combines foil, wadding and foam to create a reflective insulation barrier, reflecting the radiation of the sun away from your homes making them cooler, you could see your energy bills reduced by up to 45%.

This means that after fitting insulation purchased from Ecohome Insulation, it will pay for itself with the reduction you will see in your energy bills.

As one of our best selling insulations, the multi-material insulation is designed for lofts with little or no insulation and is one of the most effective at maintaining a cooler temperature in summer with its combination of six layers of laminated foil and wadding.

Another option is the popular Superquiltwhich is the world’s highest performance multi-foil insulation blanket, it offers slightly better performance than some other insulations and so is a fantastic choice if you are looking for the best insulation available.

Offering 19 layers of aluminium foil, wadding and foil thermo membrane it is even more successful in reflecting the heat during the summer months in addition to its intended purposes of keeping your home warmer in the winter by providing a complete insulation barrier which cuts energy bills and preventing freezing and bursting pipes.

Not only this but it is also space saving, allowing you to keep your loft floor free of storage while also saving headroom and is guaranteed for the life of the building in which it is installed.
