With Energy bills set to increase significantly in April this year, what can you do to keep your bills as low as possible?

We have put together a list of energy saving tips to help you save money and the environment……

Choose more energy efficient appliances when replacing them.

The Energy Saving Trust suggest checking products energy labels, helping you to find appliances that use the least amount of energy for their size. The higher up the rating, the more effiecient the appliance is.

Use your microwave to reheat food as opposed to the oven.

Ovens take more energy when heating up, before you can actually start to reheat your food. Microwaves tend to heat up food far quicker, so are therefore in use for less time, so more efficient.

Replace lightbulbs to be more energy efficient.

LED lightbulbs are much more efficient than Incandescent lightbulbs. So replacing these throughout your home will save you money. The Energy Saving Trust state that replacing a 60 watt incandescent bulb with a 60 watt LED bulb, could save you up to £4 per bulb per year!

Don’t leave appliances on standby.

Looking at televisions as an example, even though you may have switched it off via its remote, it’s still drawing power from the electricity socket to allow it to respond to signals from the remote control.

Set washing machine at a cooler temperature, using an eco-mode.

A lower temperature wash uses between 35-59% less energy than a hot wash. The less energy used, the less electricity used.

Insulate your loft floors and rafters.

Loft insulation could reduce your energy bills by up to £300 per year, depending on your home!

Insulating your loft floor couldn’t be any easier, following our How To Guide with our loft floor insulation kit. This kit doesn’t use nasty, itchy fibre glass and ensures your floor height isn’t raised, keeping  loft storage boards in place.

EcoQuilt Expert insulation is only 6mm thick when compressed! As opposed to a Mineral Wool alternative which has an aprroximate thickness of 100mm. Making Ecoquilt a brilliant space saving option.

Insulating under your rafters is also very beneficial for stopping draughts and preserving the heat that rises through your home. We would recommend using Superquilt insulation as this is the highest performing multifoil on the market.

Insulate under the floors in your home.

Around 15% of energy can be lost through the Floor, so insulating floors is vitally important when looking to save energy. We have created a Simple & Easy Floor Foam Kit  and fitting guide to ensure simple installation for both Wooden and Concrete floors!

Unplugging devices when not in use.

Making sure devices are unplugged prevents Phantom energy useage. This describes behind the scenes usage that is typically reserved for appliances that have a timer, digital clock or display.

Only run the dishwasher when it is full and use an Eco Program.
